Browse your backups

Everything on these screens is read from the index, so results come back straight away, whatever the size of the mailbox.

The mailbox list

Backup shows your organisations and their mailboxes, as tiles or as a list. For each mailbox you see its size, its last successful run and, if it is suspended, the reason.

You can sort the list by address, by space used or by last backup. If you manage many mailboxes, sort by last backup: the ones that are behind come first.

Folders and messages

When you open a mailbox, you see its folders as they are on the server, and its messages from newest to oldest. istorel keeps the original layout, so you can compare the backup with the mailbox itself.

There are three filters, which you can combine: subject and body, the correspondent’s domain, and the folder. A fourth filter, deleted from the server, shows only the messages that no longer exist on the server.

This is usually the filter you need after a loss: it shows what has disappeared and when.

Reading a message

A message opens in the browser, with its headers, its body and its attachments. Remote images are blocked until you choose to load them. Loading them would tell the sender that you opened the message.

Downloading the message gives you a standard .eml file that any mail client can open. The next article covers this.
